A Few of My Latest Projects......

So, I've been busy with a few projects this month.  I've really been trying to practice with my new sewing machine when I can, but it's really hard with two kids needing my attention off and on.  I decided to try making some Valentine's Day shirts for my nephews, Hudson & Hayes.  My Silhouette (my electronic cutting machine) cuts fabric, so I was able to cut out these cute shapes with that and then applique them onto the shirts with a zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine.  This was my first attempt at it, so they are by no means perfect, but I was pretty happy with how they turned out (just don't look too close!).  Hudson loves dinosaurs, so the first one is his.  The second was was for Hayes.  I thought he would look like a little ladies man in this shirt. :-)  Courtney sent me a picture of him modeling it as well.  What a cutie!

One of my other projects this month was repainting this armoire that we keep our tv in.  Seriously, I have had this since college.  Those of you that have known me since then are probably shaking your heads in disbelief that after about 13 years, I have still held onto this! ha!  Josh was just ready to toss it out on the curb, but I convinced him that I think it would really change the looks if we painted it black.  Boy, was I happy with how it turned out.  I worked on it for about 5 hours.  Josh got home and was so impressed that he decided that we should definitely keep it. :-)

Josh's 33rd Birthday!

I'm a little behind on blogging. :-)  

Josh celebrated his 33rd birthday on February 8th.  We celebrated that morning with his favorite breakfast, french toast.  We enjoyed breakfast and sang to him before he headed off to work.

That evening we had cake as well.  Then, while the boys were gone to the grandparents' that weekend, we enjoyed a nice birthday/early Valentine's day dinner at Ruth's Chris.  It was super yummy and our calorie counting took a beating. :-)  Oh well.

Funny Friday!

These "funny friday's" creep up on me so fast!  That's ok though.  I love sharing these and getting them down for me to look back through someday and remember all the funny times we had with the boys.  Love them so much!

Our friends, BJ and Wendy, were going to be coming over one night, so I told the boys ahead of time that they were coming.  Carter immediately says, "I like BJ cause he's got a teeny, tiny beard."  Carter was talking about BJ's goatee.  I couldn't quit laughing.

Collin's birthday is coming up, so I was joking and said, "So, Collin, do you want me to get you some Disney Princess stuff for your birthday?".  He didn't think that was funny....at all....he says, "What!?!??  Mom, you're not being a good samaritan!" (They had just been learning about the good samaritan at church.) :-)

So, this week, I was busy organizing my laundry room and ran across this.....It's  a dog "cone" that Lexi had to wear one time after a procedure at the vet's office.  Anyways, the boys wondered what it was, so I had Lexi "model" it for them.  Needless to say, she didn't really like the idea that much.  Collin immediately says, "Mom, look!  It's the "cone of shame"!"  If you've seen the movie "Up", you know what I'm talking about.  It just cracked me up and Lexi's poor look in this photo really makes that phrase true.  Poor girl is feeling pretty shamed. :-)  

Happy Valentine's Day!

I love sharing Valentine's Day with the 3 guys in my house.  It's kind of nice being the "queen bee" because they always spoil me.  When Josh came home tonight, he and the boys walked through the door with my Valentine's Day goodies.  They got me some beautiful flowers, lotions from bath and body works, York Peppermint Patties and a Kennedy Coffee gift card.  All my favorites!  I sure do love my 3 guys and hope they know that I love them so, so much too!  Happy Valentine's Day!

A Fun Valentine's Day Project

My mother-in-law and I had seen some neat moss covered letters on the Dear Lillie blog, as well as in the Pottery Barn magazine.  I decided to try to use their inspiration to make some fun Valentine's Day decor.  I bought a styrofoam shaped heart at Hobby Lobby along with some Reindeer Moss, got out the hot glue gun and had some fun today!  After several hot glue gun burns, I had some really cute moss covered hearts that I now have hanging in the boys' bathroom.  Super easy and cheap project.  I used several Hobby Lobby 40% off coupons for almost everything that wasn't on sale and was able to do this project for around $15.  Sorry....all these pics were taken with my phone.

My New Hobby

 I bought a new sewing machine with my birthday money. Ok, so it's not really a hobby yet because I have 2 little boys that don't allow me enough time to concentrate on many projects.  It's been something I've wanted for a while, but always imtimidated by.  I finally broke down after having coffee with a friend (thanks kelsy) one morning.  She was telling me all about how she was going to try and get into sewing.  I got inspired and went to Walmart that weekend and picked one out.  It took me about a week just to turn it on.  It was one of those things that I was excited to get, but once I got it home I was scared to take it out of the box because that meant I was going to have to learn something new.  Crazy, I know.  Anyways, about a week after I got it, I got the courage to turn it on and thread it up!  I practiced sewing a few straight stitch lines at first and then decided to make a miniature pillow case.  Very miniature pillow case.  The only material I had was some scrap material from a project a long time ago.  Anyways, I guess you could say it was my first sewing accomplishment.  Josh came home and I showed it to him.  He laughed and said, "I think it will fit on my Iphone!"  It did, but he decided not to keep it.  I think it may have just been because it was yellow. ha!  Anyways, here's Josh's Iphone modeling my first miniature pillowcase/phone cover.

I then decided to tackle a regular standard size pillowcase.  I decided that I would make a few for Lexi's dog bed.  I got the boys involved and let them go with me to each pick out a fabric.  Collin really wanted a camouflage pillow for Lexi, but Carter insisted that she was a girl and not a boy and needed a girl pillow.  Collin finally agreed and he picked out a green fabric with ladybugs and Carter picked out a hot pink polka dot fabric.  Lexi was very excited to have her new pillowcases. :-)

Funny Friday!

Only a few funnies for this week.  I struggled with material....the boys and I have kinda been in a lull this week and busy.  Have a great weekend!

One night I decided to have a "dance party" to try and wear the boys out.  We have been having A LOT of trouble getting them to go to sleep before like 10:45 at night.  Yes, you read that right....not a typo.  Anyways, in my desperation, I put on the Kidz Bop cd and we started jamming.  Collin was not amused with my dance moves and says, "If you don't quit dancing, I'm going to get out of this house and go to town!!"

Collin is so much like me in many ways.  Josh is always shaking his head when he hears Collin singing a commercial jingle he's heard on tv.  Josh has teased me about doing that for years, so now its funny to see Collin doing it.  The other day he came up to me and says, "Hey mom, like a good neighbor, state farm is there!"

So, in turn, I've always made fun of Josh for sticking his tongue out when he is really concentrating on something.  I've mainly noticed it when he's playing video games or games on his phone.  He gets so into it and his tongue just goes crazy while he's playing.  Anyways, the other day, I started noticing that Carter does the same thing!  He was playing a game on my phone and his tongue was wiggling around like crazy.  Then, the other day I was letting him cut some paper and caught him at it again.  I just had to get this picture.  Josh and I both cracked up.  It's funny to see your kids inherit some of your quirky traits.
