Pure Mission

It's been almost 2 years since Josh traveled to Africa on a mission trip through our church and also in conjunction with the Bigger Than Life Christian Foundation who he worked for at the time and for whom he had designed the Esther's House Orphanage in Malawi, Africa.

I knew how important this trip meant to Josh, but never saw myself wanting to go. After watching all of Josh's videos and looking at the hundreds of pictures, my heart began to soften for the people of Malawi. I knew Esther's House Orphanage was a great opportunity and source of hope for that region and was so glad that Josh was able to be a part of it. Still, I didn't see myself going because of the boys and because I wasn't sure I would be able to handle what I would see.

Only a handful of people know of this story that I am about to share.
Last year on July 27, 2009 at 2:27 a.m. God began waking me up in the middle of the night for 3 weeks straight. Same time every morning....2:27 a.m. Every night I was awake, I couldn't go back to sleep. The people of Africa were so strongly on my heart. I would go to my Bible in the middle of the night just knowing that there was a reason God was waking me up at the same time every night. I went through every book of the Bible looking at the 2nd chapter, 27th verse of every book hoping to find my answer. Didn't find it.....in fact, still don't know what that meant, if anything, but still watching for God to reveal that to me as well. :-)

Last fall, I was doing a bible study at church on the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan. Great book and if you have the chance to read it, it will change you tremendously! It had been a while since I had felt God convicting my heart about Africa, but during the course of this bible study, I began to feel a strong conviction about going to Africa. I broke down one day in bible study explaining to the women around me what I was struggling with. In my heart, I knew God wanted me to help the people in Malawi and Esther's House Orphanage, but my heart was also tied here to two little boys whom I couldn't fathom leaving.
Now, fast forward to today.....
This past week, I had my prayers answered and my eyes opened to what God was calling me to do. I received a phone call out of the blue from one of the founders of the Bigger Than Life Christian Foundation. I know her well, but had never discussed anything about what I was going through nor my desire to help in some way. She called me wanting to know if I would want to volunteer to help them by making sure all donations coming in for the orphans, projects and volunteers were allocated to the right accounts, etc. so that they could make sure all the money being sent in was being used for exactly what the donors intended. She said, "The great thing is, you can help in this way and still be able to stay at home with the boys Carrie." I was in absolute awe of how awesome God works and how he had been preparing my heart for this task. I met with them this week and as I was getting ready to go meet them I looked down at my phone and realized the date....July 27, 2010!! I hadn't even realized the date when we scheduled a time to meet. I just knew we were meeting on Tuesday. It had been exactly a year ago to the day that God had begun waking me up in the middle of the night! Just amazing to me how God is so into every detail of our lives. I knew then that this is what I was called to do and had such a peace about my decision. I still have a strong desire to go to Esther's House one day, but for now, I am so happy to be able to help in this way.
This is Josh working on Esther's House Orphanage-August 2008

This is the medical clinic Josh has designed that is in desperate need of being built. Adequate healthcare is just not available, and I have heard too many stories this week that have broken my heart. Pure Mission is wanting to raise enough money as soon as possible so this medical clinic can be built.

There are so many ways that you can help. Please visit the Pure Mission website and find out how you can help. There are still a few orphans left that need sponsors, as well as projects, supply needs and volunteers that need your financial support as well. I know it is hard to send your money to support causes such as this because you never really know for sure if your money is being used as you intended. This is a great foundation and you can be confident that your money is being used for what you intend it for because I will be working to make sure that it is allocated correctly! You can also be sure that you will be blessed tremendously by this ministry.

I would appreciate your prayers as I take on this new endeavor.

The Little Golfer Who Melts My Heart.....

I was busy having a garage sale at our house on Saturday, so Josh decided he wasn't going to stick around (he hates that stuff). He, Josh Landreth and Collin all went golfing. It was Collin's first trip to a real course with the guys and he was SUPER excited. The day before I caught him out in the backyard practicing his putting (that's what he told me). He took his own little clubs, bag and golf balls. He was so ready and prepared! Collin had a blast with daddy and uncle Josh and I am so glad that they got so many great pictures! He made this blogger's day!
Collin is still thanking Josh (on a daily basis). He walked in our room the other morning and whispered in Josh's ear, "Daddy, thank you for taking me golfing." So glad he had such a great time. Thinking we may have to get him into some golf lessons instead of t-ball or soccer since he seems to love it soooo much.

I love that Collin is such a little ham!

My favorite picture...

So, the quality of this picture isn't the greatest because I took it with my phone, but I captured this sweet moment tonight as I was sitting outside with the boys. Collin was practicing hitting the golf balls and Carter was very interested in what he was doing. I thought a fight was going to ensue, but I saw Collin go up to Carter, grab his hand and start walking across the yard. I overheard him say as I was taking this picture, "Come over here Carter.....this is how you golf, see?" Have I mentioned that I just love having little boys?? It is such a joy to watch them when they are so loving towards each other.

My Muscle Men!

Just watch the video....enough said. :-)

Lately....

I can't believe that summer is halfway over! It always goes by way too fast, but I'm sure that has a lot to do with all the activities that keep us all so busy. Here's what we've been up to lately....

Last weekend, we celebrated our friend Cameryn's 3rd birthday with her. She had a Little Mermaid "Under the Sea" theme party and her mom Kelsy did such a wonderful job decorating (as usual!). The kids had so much fun enjoying the pool party that followed. I wasn't brave enough to take any pictures poolside....it was a little crazy. :-)

Our friends Mark & Morgan came to visit with their newest addition Frances! This was the first time we had met Frances and she was an absolute doll! Such a well behaved and sweet little girl! Mark is working on his graduate degree at Harvard, so we were so happy that they could take a break to come visit. Josh and I really hope to make it up to visit them sometime. I would love to see Boston in the fall!

BJ & Wendy hosted a cookout at their house when Mark, Morgan & Frances came to visit. We were all entertained watching the little ones play in their plastic pool. Carter, my little daredevil, had no fear at all going down the little waterslide. He was laughing all the way! I'm definitely going to have to invest in a little pool like this next summer. Way easier to maintain!

Finally, my & Courtney's friend Brooke came up to visit the other day with her 3 boys. I laughed when we were sitting at the table trying to eat lunch with all the boys and the chaos. I just looked at Brooke and said, "Remember the college days before we had kids?? Ha!! What happened to us??" It was pretty funny to see us 3 girls with all our boys, but what a blessing!

4th of July Weekend

We had a great 4th of July weekend. We started off with the Kids 4th of July Bike Parade on the square in Bentonville on Saturday. I had mentioned it to Collin a couple of weeks ago, and he was super excited to ride his bike in the parade. I decided that I could probably let Carter do it to, but let he and Hudson ride in the wagon. Courtney came over on Friday and we got their "rides" all decked out in red, white and blue.
Once we got there, Collin didn't even hesitate to get ready for the parade. He was sooooo excited! Once the parade started, it didn't take us long to figure out that he thought it was a race! ha! Collin took off so fast trying to beat all the other kids! We were just cracking up. After the race was over, Collin said, "I beat all those other kids and I won an ice cream, but I didn't want it." The Station Cafe on the square gave all the participants a free ice cream, so Collin thought that it was his prize for "winning". So cute. He is still talking about all the girls he passed on his bike! ha!

Here he is getting ready for the parade.
Here are Carter and Hudson in their sweet ride
Collin in action!
Carter was pretty proud of himself too!
After the race, Collin went with Pa-pa to cool off in the fountain
And Carter & Hudson cooled off with some ice cream

Sunday, we had a cookout at our house. Mom & Dad, Courtney, Josh & Hudson, Kate, Uncle Joey, and BJ & Wendy all joined us. We had a great time hanging out.
I made some of Martha Stewart's pom poms to hang in the dining room, made some patriotic cupcakes, decorated the table with some candles and just had to get a picture of one of my favorite things.....mom's blackberry cobbler....soooo yummy!!

After dinner, we headed over to our church, The Church at Pinnacle Hills, for their AMAZING fireworks display! We had a great time hanging out with all our family and friends there as well. We are so blessed to have such a wonderful church family!

Before the fireworks started, they asked everyone to say The Pledge of Allegiance. I hadn't recited that in a long time, but thought it was so sweet to watch Collin say it. Here he is with his hand over his precious little heart. :-)
Our only family picture. As you can see, the boys weren't cooperating too well. :-)
Thank you to all those who are or have served in the military and have fought so hard for this wonderful freedom are so blessed to have. Thank you Lord for the precious gift of freedom you sacrificed for us on the cross! We have been given the precious gift of freedom to look forward to with you in eternity!
I hope you all had a blessed 4th of July as well!

Eclipse Premiere!

Awww....Twilight.....love the books, love the movies! A group of friends and I, whom I like to refer to as my fellow "Twi-moms" :-), went out the other night to catch the midnight showing of the new movie in the Twilight saga, Eclipse. We started off the night with dinner at Abuelo's, then headed to Starbucks to get a little caffeine and then went to the movie theater to wait in line for a couple of hours. I had a blast with these girls and can't wait until Nov 2011 when the next movie comes out! Team Edward!! :-)

Happy Father's Day!

I know I have said it before, but I have to say it again.....I am sooo blessed to have such a wonderful husband who is the most spectacular father to our boys. I am so thankful that our boys have such a wonderful Christian man to look up to as they grow up. I love Josh so much and watching him with Collin & Carter each day makes me love him even more!
We love you so much Josh! Happy Father's Day!

I also have to give a shout out to my father, Howard, as well. He has always been such a hard-working man on the dairy farm. He loves Courtney and I beyond measure and has spoiled us more than we ever deserved. We love him besides all that though. It's such a joy to watch him with our boys now and to see how much our boys enjoy spending time with him down at the creek, riding the tractor or riding the 4-wheeler.
I once saw a picture frame that said, "Great Dads Get Promoted to Grandpa".
That holds so true for my dad.
We love you!

And last, but definitely not least.....I thank God today not only for all our earthly fathers, but also for him being our Heavenly Father.
Thank you Lord for loving us and for the hope you give, knowing that you will always be there for us.
You also love us and spoil us more than we will ever deserve.
We love you Lord!
