My New Hobby

I bought a new sewing machine with my birthday money. Ok, so it's not really a hobby yet because I have 2 little boys that don't allow me enough time to concentrate on many projects.  It's been something I've wanted for a while, but always imtimidated by.  I finally broke down after having coffee with a friend (thanks kelsy) one morning.  She was telling me all about how she was going to try and get into sewing.  I got inspired and went to Walmart that weekend and picked one out.  It took me about a week just to turn it on.  It was one of those things that I was excited to get, but once I got it home I was scared to take it out of the box because that meant I was going to have to learn something new.  Crazy, I know.  Anyways, about a week after I got it, I got the courage to turn it on and thread it up!  I practiced sewing a few straight stitch lines at first and then decided to make a miniature pillow case.  Very miniature pillow case.  The only material I had was some scrap material from a project a long time ago.  Anyways, I guess you could say it was my first sewing accomplishment.  Josh came home and I showed it to him.  He laughed and said, "I think it will fit on my Iphone!"  It did, but he decided not to keep it.  I think it may have just been because it was yellow. ha!  Anyways, here's Josh's Iphone modeling my first miniature pillowcase/phone cover.

I then decided to tackle a regular standard size pillowcase.  I decided that I would make a few for Lexi's dog bed.  I got the boys involved and let them go with me to each pick out a fabric.  Collin really wanted a camouflage pillow for Lexi, but Carter insisted that she was a girl and not a boy and needed a girl pillow.  Collin finally agreed and he picked out a green fabric with ladybugs and Carter picked out a hot pink polka dot fabric.  Lexi was very excited to have her new pillowcases. :-)

I love this pic because it looks like she's smiling. :-)

Funny Friday!

Only a few funnies for this week.  I struggled with material....the boys and I have kinda been in a lull this week and busy.  Have a great weekend!

One night I decided to have a "dance party" to try and wear the boys out.  We have been having A LOT of trouble getting them to go to sleep before like 10:45 at night.  Yes, you read that right....not a typo.  Anyways, in my desperation, I put on the Kidz Bop cd and we started jamming.  Collin was not amused with my dance moves and says, "If you don't quit dancing, I'm going to get out of this house and go to town!!"
***
Collin is so much like me in many ways.  Josh is always shaking his head when he hears Collin singing a commercial jingle he's heard on tv.  Josh has teased me about doing that for years, so now its funny to see Collin doing it.  The other day he came up to me and says, "Hey mom, like a good neighbor, state farm is there!"

So, in turn, I've always made fun of Josh for sticking his tongue out when he is really concentrating on something.  I've mainly noticed it when he's playing video games or games on his phone.  He gets so into it and his tongue just goes crazy while he's playing.  Anyways, the other day, I started noticing that Carter does the same thing!  He was playing a game on my phone and his tongue was wiggling around like crazy.  Then, the other day I was letting him cut some paper and caught him at it again.  I just had to get this picture.  Josh and I both cracked up.  It's funny to see your kids inherit some of your quirky traits.

Funny Friday!

Only a couple of funnies this week...all featuring our favorite 2 1/2 year old...Carter. :-)

Me:  "Carter, eat your carrots.  They help you see good so when you go hunting with daddy you will be able to see deer really well!"
Carter:  "I don't need carrots!  I just use daddy's noculars! (binoculars)"
***
Carter:  "I drink milk so my beard will grow up.  Then my friends will see my beard and say, 'What?!?!' "
Poor little guy is still OBSESSED with growing a beard like daddy. :-)

Happy Birthday Lexi!

Our sweet Lexi turned 9 today!  We just love her so much.  She has been the best dog, despite the fact that the boys bug her sometimes.  Happy Birthday Lexi Lu!

Happy 3rd Birthday Hudson!!

Our nephew, Hudson, turned 3 today.  So hard to believe that he and Carter turn 3 this year!!  Time has really flown by.  We had a fun day yesterday at Hudson's party.  We enjoyed pizza and a yummy, adorable cake (from Shelby Lynne's of course!).  Hudson got a lot of great things and then we were even able to go outside and play since it was such a nice day.  Mimi came over to stay with us for the weekend, so we were so happy to have her as well.  We even got to sneak in 2 date nights!!  Friday night we went out with our friends Dan & Katie to a new Italian restaurant, Tavola.  Super yummy.  Then Saturday night we went to the movies with BJ and Wendy.  So thankful for such wonderful friendships!

Happy Birthday Hudson!  We love you buddy!
He is literally saying "cheese" here. :-)

 His adorable dinosaur cake!

The 3 big boys.  Carter insisted on wearing this pirate hat most of the day. :-)

Mimi and her boys.

Donuts with Dad

The boys' preschool had a special "Donuts with Dad" day a week ago.  The boys were excited to have daddy go with them to school for a bit, but once they got there they weren't really interested in sitting around and eating donuts.  They kept asking when they could go to their class. :-)  At least they love going to school I guess!

Funny Friday!

Our funnies for the week...

So the other night, we caught Carter sporting this "costume".  Josh and I both just started laughing because he reminded us of Jack Black in that movie "Nacho Libre" where he was the mexican wrestler (see last picture).  Ok, he doesn't look exactly like that, but in the moment, it was what came to mind.  Carter is really enjoying all the costumes he got for Christmas. :-)

Collin-"Carter, someday when you get married to a girl, you can download games on your iPad."
***
Collin (the day after the Broncos big win), "Mom, I prayed to God for the Broncos to win and they did!  They are better than your Chiefs!"  So sweet, but I really gotta work on converting him back to my team and not daddy's. :-)  Ok, I do have a slight crush on Tim Tebow, but that's the only thing I like about the Broncos.

The other day Carter had this crazy long, wild hair sticking out from the side of his cheek.  I thought it was a stray hair and then realized that it was attached!  I couldn't believe it.  I started to pull it and he got SO mad at me and wouldn't let me.  All day long he wouldn't let me near him to pull it.  He was SO excited to think that he might be actually growing a beard like daddy's! ha!  It was so cute how excited he was.  Once Josh got home from work, Carter was so proud to show him his new "facial hair".  He then let daddy pull it....thank goodness! :-)
